The automotive industry is currently witnessing a major evolution. From manually driven, hardware-dominated and static vehicles to autonomously controlled, software-defined, individualized and highly connected means of transportation.
However, to get to this point, several things have to change. Currently, mechanically controlled features like steering or braking will have to be performed electrically, driven by the X-by-wire revolution. In addition, cameras and sophisticated sensor systems for environmental perception (e.g., radar, LIDAR, ultrasonic sensors), as needed for autonomous driving, will be added to the vehicles. High-performance computing and continuous connectivity to the surroundings and the cloud (i.e. Connectivity-to-X) for individual driving experiences (e.g. app stores, infotainment) will be implemented in future vehicles as well.
All these changes have one thing in common – they are very power-consuming and in addition to that, safety-critical applications like autonomous driving need to be fail-operational and reconfigurable or even self-healing.
To tackle both challenges and enable the vehicles of tomorrow, Vitesco Technologies is working on the products for the future 48 V powernet bringing a safe and comfortable driving experience to the customers.
